Native of Milwaukee, WI, Michael C. Cockroft, also known as Mike C, has made quite a name for himself serenading microphones with powerful messages, brilliant word play and a persuasive tongue that will make any and every listener feel, believe and respect his art and talent. Although considerably new to the performance arena, Mike C has hit the scene in a fury and has been featured in many well established poetry/open mics sets, gaining the love and dear enjoyment of everyone under the command of his voice. His passion for words, his gift of using them and the overall positive spirit he possesses has gained him the hearts of thousands.
Michael prides himself on his versatility to write about any and everything. Not only has he performed in local bars and poetry venues, but he has also performed in churches, schools, weddings, sports events, and community organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club. His passion is reaching out to the youth and helping them stay on the right path to success.
"With the gift of writing comes responsibility. Anybody can write foolishness and make it sound good, and I admit we all have our moments, but I strive to be known for discussing the real life issues that people need to hear. Whether it be dispair, hurt or pain, or love, joy, and happiness. That's what I write about. To change, to inspire, to create emotion and give a new outlook on a topic."
Michael has been featured on Fox 6 News for being a good role model; mentoring teens and helping them plan for life after high school before he was even an adult himself. It is not uncommon to find him mentoring, teaching and inspiring his peers and those alike.
Mike C has performed on FM and internet radio and is trying to expand his horizons and perform in different cities across the nation. Currently, he is working on his first album and book, both to be released on August 8, 2010, his 23rd birthday. Michael is also planning an eight state midwest tour this summer.
In addition to his poetry and public speaking careers, Michael is also a model. Featured in his first runway show in 2007, Michael is continuing to expand his resume in the fashion industry. Known for his smooth, sophisticated and seductive swagger, Michael is quite the GQ ad type material.
Overall, Mr. Cockroft is a phenomenal poet, father, mentor and friend to everyone he encounters. Mike C is well onto his way to becoming a recognized house name. Most of all, he remains humble and when asked about his success, his first words were, "I'm blessed. I know I didn't do any of this by myself, it was God; and to him goes the glory. I am just a messenger, a living example of his goodness and mercy."
